REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY

REMEMBER THE SABBATH DAY

Psalms 33: 6 & 9

"By The Word of The Lord were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth. For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast."

Jesus, The Word of God, by His Divine power, simply said, "Let it be" and there it was; the world and all things that are in it , whether man or beast, plants or rocks, river and streams and everything in the water came into existence.

Colossians 1: 16

"For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him:

And after He finished creating this world, it was Jesus, that came to Adam & Eve and spoke with them. The Father remained on His Throne in heaven, and the Holy Spirit worked with Christ for man’s salvation. It was Jesus who spoke to Enoch, and Noah, to Abraham and Isaac and all the prophets. Jesus is speaking to us through His Word today by The Spirit . It is The Spirit of God that gives us understanding of God’s Word and plants it in our hearts. That is why Jesus said in John 6: 63>

"The Word’s that I speak unto you, they are Spirit,

and they are

life".

And in

Psalms 119:11 "Thy Word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against Thee."

Today we are going to search The Word of God, and discover which day God says is The Sabbath that He has made for all people.

Our first text is:

Genesis 2: 1 - 3

"Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.

And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had made; and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had made.

And

God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in It He had rested from all His work which God created and made."

So

there is absolutely no question, that when God created this planet, He did it in six days and rested on the Seventh Day. But He did not just rest on the Seventh Day, but God blessed the Seventh Day and Sanctified The Seventh Day. He made it a Holy Day.

Can any man

bless and make a day holy?

God

tells us we are evil,(Luke 11: 13) all our righteousness is as filthy rags, (Isaiah 64: 6) our heart is deceitful and wicked, (Jeremiah 17:9); we can not make any day a "holy day". ONLY A HOLY GOD CAN MAKE A DAY HOLY! Keep that in mind as we search God’s Word about The Sabbath!

Now we go forward in history to 1500 years before Christ is born in Bethlehem.

The Children of Israel

had just been delivered from Egypt and they were camped in the wilderness. There was no regular food available, but God gave them special food which they called "manna" which was to be their food for all of 40 years. They were told to gather it each morning for six days, and on the sixth day to gather enough for two days but, they were not not to gather any on the Seventh Day for there would be none sent for them on the Seventh Day.

At the end of our study I will give you a list of all the verses we will use today for you to check them out at home.

Exodus 16: 26 – 30

"

Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is The Sabbath, in it there shall be none.

And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on

the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

And

The Lord said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep My Commandments and My Laws?

See, for that

The Lord hath given you the Sabbath, therefore He giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

So the people rested

on the seventh day."

Every morning

when the children of Israel awoke and came out of their tents, the "manna" was laying on the ground all around their camp. They were to gather a quart for each person for that day. They were not to gather enough for two days. What happened when some disobeyed God’s instruction and gathered for two days?

It bred worms and stank.

But on the sixth day they were commanded to gather for

two days

because there would not be any on the ground on The Seventh Day Sabbath!

God

means what He says, and says what He means and He is very jealous for His Sabbath. But, just like Israel of old, Christians today think they can change God’s commands.

This event with the manna took place in the middle of the second month after the Children of Israel left Egypt; and is recorded in Exodus chapter 16. They

Did not come to Mount Sinai until the third month at which time God Spoke the Ten Commandments from Mt. Sinai and wrote them on the tables of stone. This fact proves that The Ten commandments existed before God Gave them to Moses

On Mt. Sinai and that the Seventh Day Sabbath was part of that Holy Law. But, long before Sinai, The Bible shows that God’s Law was there as the rule of life.

Genesis 4:7 "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted ? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door."

When Cain thought he could change God’s Command to offer a lamb as a sacrifice for sin, and offer grain and veggies instead; God told him plainly he had sinned against God.

The Law was there ever since creation, but Brothers and Sisters God’s Law has been in existence from all eternity!

Another day while Israel were in there Exodus journey; a man in the camp went out and was gathering fire wood on The Sabbath. What happened to him for working on God’s Holy Sabbath Day?

God told Moses that this man was to be put to death by stoning!

So there is no question that

1500 years before Christ, The Seventh Day was The Sabbath, just as God had commanded in Eden.

But now lets go forward another

1500 years to the time of Christ.

Which day were the

Jews keeping as The Sabbath when Christ was born? I have not met anyone who will question the fact that The Seventh Day was The Sabbath, when Jesus came and that Jesus and the disciples kept The Seventh Day Sabbath before the crucifixion, but, for some strange reason most Christians today think that they have the authority to change The Sabbath to the the first day in honor of His resurrection.

We must then ask the question and search for the answer;

did Christ change The Sabbath?

Deuteronomy 9: 9 – 11, & 15.

"When I was gone up into the mount to receive the

tables of stone, even the tables of The Covenant which The Lord made with you, then I abode in the mount forty days and forty nights, I neither did eat bread nor drink water:

9:10 And

The Lord delivered unto me two tables of stone written with the finger of God; and on them was written according to all the words, which The Lord spake with you in the mount out of the midst of the fire in the day of the assembly.

9:11 And it came to pass at the end of forty days and forty nights, that

The Lord gave me the two tables of stone, even the tables of The Covenant."

What was written on those

tables of stone by the finger of God? The Words of the Ten Commandments. Again I do not know anyone who will say any different. And these words are called The Word’s of The Covenant.

The Ten Commandments

are the terms of the agreement between God and the people He has created. God says if you will agree with and live by these terms, then I will be your God and if you are faithful to the terms of this agreement then I will give you eternal life.

So now we know that

The Spirit of God says the Ten Commandments written in the Two Tables of Stone by the finger of God are His Covenant.

God now tells us something about that

Covenant that we should never forget!

Psalm 89: 34.

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

We just read in Deuteronomy chapter 9, that God’s Covenant is His Ten Commandments, and God says:

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

Brothers and sisters; no preacher, no teacher, no doctor, no lawyer, no man, no women, no pope and no devil has the authority to change God’s Holy Covenant Law which God says He will never change!

And where does it say to:

"Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep It holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

20:10 But the seventh day is The Sabbath of The Lord thy God: in It thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:

20:11 For in six days The Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore The Lord blessed

The Sabbath Day, and hallowed it."

That is found in Exodus 20: 8 – 11.

In the very heart

of God’s Covenant Law!

That is Commandment # 4 of God’s Covenant Law which God said He will never alter or break ever!

Psalm 89: 34.

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

Numbers 23: 19, 20

"God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it, or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

23:20 Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and He hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it."

The Mighty Creator God has blessed and sanctified The Seventh Day and woe be to any man who thinks he can reverse the decrees of God! Those who think they can do what God says He will never do!

Psalm 89: 34.

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

When God speaks His Word is forever and He never needs to change His Word!

The Devil, who is also called The Dragon and Satan, has tried to change it. He used a religious system that is directly under his control and has millions of Christians convinced that he has power to change God’s Sabbath.

If we do not keep God’s Seventh Day Sabbath we are breaking God’s Covenant Law and are committing sin.

What is sin?

1 John 3: 4

"Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also The Law: for sin is the transgression of The Law.

And what are the wages of sin?

Romans 6: 23

"The wages of sin

is death".

But praise God, when we realize we have been breaking God’s Covenant Law, whether it be The Sabbath or any other Commandment, Romans 6: 23 continues by saying, "but The Gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord"!

"If we confess our sin, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sin and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness".

The blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin".

1 John 1: 7 & 9.

Last Sabbath we read in the book of Deuteronomy chapter nine and verses 9 – 11 that God’s Covenant is the Ten Commandment Law that He gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. These laws are the terms of our agreement with God to be His obedient people.

In Psalms 89: 34 we read that God will never break or alter His Covenant Law.

Psalm 89: 34.

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

After the service last week, someone mentioned what Jesus said in Matthew 5: 17 – 18, concerning His Great Moral Covenant with all people. Here is what Jesus said in the New Testament.

Matthew 5: 17 – 18.

"Think not that I am come to destroy The Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from The Law, till all be fulfilled."

Jesus gave us His Great Covenant Law on Mt. Sinai and He wrote it with His own finger in Two Tables of Stone. He wrote it in stone to teach us it was to last forever!

And here in Matthew 5; 17 & 18 He tells us that not even the dot on the letter

i or the cross on the letter t was to be changed "until all be fulfilled".

When will God’s plan of salvation be fulfilled ? Not until God creates the New Heavens and the New Earth where sin will never rise again.

Jesus fulfilled the Law and the Prophets in two ways. One: Jesus was obedient to all the Covenant Law in every thing He said or did. He did not break any Commandment even in the slightest degree.

Did Jesus keep The Law as a man or as God?

Jesus obeyed the Law in His humanity by the power of the Holy Spirit. This same power is available to every person. Jesus had no advantage over us, as some people would have us believe. They say that as an excuse for sin.

The second way Jesus fulfilled the Law in The New Testament is that He fulfilled all that The Prophets had written about the Saviour that was to come into the world. Everything Jesus did was foretold in Prophecy before He came, and everything He will yet do will happen according to "It Is Written" in God’s Holy Word. Not even the dot on the letter i or the cross on the letter t was to be changed "until all be fulfilled".

Another point.

In Revelation 1: 10, John says he was "in the Spirit on the

"The Lord’s Day"!

Now most Christians think that was the first day of the week, but Jesus tells us which Day is His Day.

Jesus told us which day is The Lord’s Day in Matthew 12:8;

"For the Son of man is Lord even of the Sabbath Day."

Jesus is Lord of The Seventh Day Sabbath!

Not one, jot or tittle would He ever change.

Psalm 89: 34.

"My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of My lips."

A fearful warning

is given to those who try to change The Word of God and teach others to follow them.

Revelation 22: 18 – 19.

"For I testify unto every man that heareth the Words of The Prophecy of This Book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in This Book:

22:19 And if any man shall take away from The Words of The Book of this Prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of The Holy City, and from the things which are written in This Book."

If we add to or take from God’s Word and try to change His Covenant, we will lose eternal life ourselves and be guilty of the blood of those we have deceived!

There is no change of the Sabbath in The Bible, absolutely not and the church that changed the day to the first day of the week will give anyone a thousand dollars to prove from Scripture that Jesus or His disciples changed The Sabbath to Sunday the first day of the week. That offer was made many years ago and no one has ever collected the money!

But there is much more about The Seventh Day Sabbath in the Scripture we need to consider next time we meet.

Today, we want to look at some of the wonderful events that took place during the Passover week in AD 31 when Jesus was crucified, and see how the Seventh Day Sabbath played a very important role in those events.

Remember that God’s days of the week always begin at sunset, not midnight.

On the evening of the sixth day, which we would call, Thursday evening, but is really the beginning of the sixth day of the week, Jesus met with His disciples in the upper room and celebrated the Passover. After the Supper He led them to the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed so earnestly to His Father in heaven to be released from the suffering that He knew was just a few hours away. While it was still dark He was arrested by the mob sent by the Jewish leaders and was betrayed by Judas. He was tried before the Sanhedrin, condemned and sent to Pilot the Roman Governor; Pilot sent Him to Herod and Herod sent Him back to Pilot. The Romans whipped Him twice and nailed Him to the cross at the third hour of the day Jewish time, which compares to 9 AM our time. Six hours later, Jesus died at the 9th hour on the 14th day of the first month according to The Passover time. That "time" for the sacrifice of Christ was ordained by God before the creation of this world. The "ninth hour" Jewish time is 3 PM in the afternoon our time. Reading now from The Bible beginning at Luke 23: verse 50>

"And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counselor; and he was a good man, and a just:

23:51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) (((that had crucified Jesus))) he was of Arimathea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.

23:52 This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.

23:53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.

23:54 And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on.

23:55 And the women also, which came with Him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how His body was laid.

23:56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to The Commandment.

Joseph of Arimathea, a ruler of The Jews, who was not in favor of putting Christ to death, went to Pilot and begged for the body of Jesus for burial. Pilot consented and Joseph and Nicodemus embalmed the body of Jesus and put Him in a sepulcher where no dead had ever been placed before.

What day of the week was this

taking place?

Luke 23:54 says ; "And that day was the preparation, and the Sabbath drew on."

This was the "sixth day" of the week, which on the Catholic Gregorian Calendar is called by the pagan name of Friday, but on God’s Calendar it is simply the "sixth day" of the week. The day before each Seventh Day Sabbath is called the "Preparation Day".

Why is it called the, "Preparation Day"? It is called the Preparation Day because it is the day we are to get all things ready for the sacred hours of The Sabbath.

There were several women watching the burial of Christ’s body.

What did they do?

Luke 23:56 says "And they returned (home), and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the Sabbath day according to The Commandment."

What did they do?

They, "rested

on the Sabbath day according to The Commandment."

Now, if Christ was about to change the Sabbath from the "seventh day" to the "first day" these followers of Jesus knew nothing about it !

They, "rested

on the Sabbath day according to The Commandment."

Which Commandment?

The Fourth Commandment of God’s Covenant Law!

"Remember the Sabbath Day, to keep It holy.

20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work:

20:10 But the seventh day is The Sabbath of The Lord thy God:"

But it is even more wonderful! Luke 24: 1 says:

"Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulcher, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them."

These women would not even embalm the body of Jesus on The Seventh Day Sabbath, but on the "first day" of the week they came to do that work for their precious Lord!

They were not having a church service friends, they came to do work on the first day that they would not do on God’s Holy Seventh Day Sabbath ! Jesus never told them that He was going to change the Sabbath to Sunday!

And where were the disciples on that "first day of the week", the morning of Christ’s resurrection?

Were they having a worship service?

They were in the upper room with the door locked for fear of the Jews and did not even believe Jesus had risen when the women came from the tomb with the words from the angels! And the first day passed by and they still did not believe Jesus had risen until Jesus suddenly appeared to them at evening! A little bit late to have a church service in honor of

the resurrection!

John 20: 19 "Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you."

Too late for a worship service!

Are you beginning to see that someone has been promoting a lie about God’s Sabbath and almost all the churches calling themselves Christians have been terribly deceived?

Now here is something even more wonderful about the crucifixion event.

Jesus died and was buried on the "sixth day" called also called the, Preparation Day. Where was Jesus on the very next day after His death ? The next day was The Seventh Day Sabbath. Where was Jesus on this very first Sabbath after His death?

The very first thing Jesus did after His death was to keep the Seventh Day Sabbath! Isn’t that wonderful! Jesus was resting in the tomb on the Sabbath Day "according to the Commandment’!

If The Covenant Law had been nailed to the cross as some would have us believe, then

we would have to conclude that even Jesus did not know it! The very fact that Jesus rested on the Seventh Day Sabbath, which He ordained at creation, proves that the Seventh Day Sabbath is still The Lord’s Day. Sunday is a false Sabbath, the invention of Satan and his Vicar, the Pope!

But there is even more!

In Leviticus chapter 23, God lists all of His Holy Days.

There is the weekly Seventh Day Sabbath, then there are seven others called "Annual Feasts" because they happen only once each year.

The Passover, which always takes place on the 14th day of the "first month" of God’s sacred calendar, is followed by the Feast of Unleavened Bread, which begins on the 15th Day of the "first month", and is a seven day feast. The first day is a Sabbath and the last day is a Sabbath.

The Feast of Unleavened Bread is a memorial of Jesus who is The Bread of Life. There is to be no yeast in the bread because there was no sin in Jesus and the yeast represents sin. By the special design of God, when Jesus died in AD 31, He not only rested on the Seventh Day Sabbath, but that year the First Sabbath of The Feast of Unleavened Bread came on the same day, so it was a double Sabbath or as The Bible says a "High Day".

The Seventh Day weekly Sabbath is a memorial of God’s creative power and The Sabbath of Unleavened Bread is a memorial of His redeeming power! And immediately after His death Jesus rested on both these Sabbaths at the same time on the same day! Praise God!

Hebrews 9:15 – 16.

"And for this cause He is the mediator of the New Testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

9:16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.

9:17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth."

Jesus died at the ninth hour on the sixth day of the week and kept the very next Sabbath. His precious blood sealed His Testament forever and no man, devil, or pope can change it! Praise God!

The Sign of God's Authority Those from among you shall build the old waste places; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; and you shall be called the Repairer of the Breach, the Restorer of Streets to Dwell In. Isaiah 58:12, NKJV. The Sabbath is a golden clasp that unites God and His people. But the Sabbath command has been broken. God's holy day has been desecrated. The Sabbath has been torn from its place by the man of sin, and a common working day has been exalted in its stead. A breach has been made in the law, and this breach is to be repaired. The true Sabbath is to be exalted to its rightful position as God's rest day. In the fifty-eighth chapter of Isaiah is outlined the work which God's people are to do.
